5.15  Demonstrate intentional, explicit, systematic writing instruction as it relates to the ability to read written language.

For this activity, students are in a writing center rotations. The prompt changes daily. Students will read the prompt and write an essay following the rubric posted on the wall. There are several signs hanging to remind students how to be good "text talkers" and write to the best of their abilities. Students complete the prompt writing essay during a 15 minute center rotation. Students visit this rotation at least 3 times a week, each time writing about a different prompt. We also do whole group writing with our Benchmark Reading Curriculum and the students are showing mastery of this concept. We are hoping in the next month or so to be able to start writing based on research, but opinion writing has definitely been mastered.
