Versa Tiles are a hands on manipulative learning tool to help increase fluency in students. Research shows that manipulatives help increase learning in elementary students as it is something they can see and touch during the learning process. For this concept, we read a a short paragraph about plants and answered corresponding questions about if we were able to find that information in the text (yes or no). Students place their number tiles in the corresponding letter space for their answer. When all questions are complete, students are able to close their Versa Tile board and flip it over to see if it correctly matches the answer key picture in the bottom corner of the page. If students pictures do not match, we are able to break it down and discuss their answers and thought process behind the correct answer. This does take some practice, but the students really enjoy this center activity.
